Produced as one of a small batch by a highly talented engineer, the man was also responsible for designing and building a batch of four super-detailed 7 1/4 inch gauge Pennsylvania E6 Atlantics for "Saturated Steam", a small company in the USA supplying finely detailed parts and castings for model engineers during the 1980s. There's more about the company, the man and the locomotives here.
Delivered new in 1985, since that time the boiler has remained in a private collection, unsteamed, in company with many fine locomotives, stationary engines and a superb 4 inch scale traction engine all of which arrived with us earlier in the year.
The boiler is of silver soldered copper construction, mounted on a steel base and lagged with strip wood secured by brass bands. Firehole door and sliding shutter damper are in stainless steel.
Water feed is by means of a vertical injector, delivering through a beautifully made scale clack valve.
Hydraulic tested at twice working pressure, the boiler has new certification for same.
