Second hand

We are always interested in buying or part exchanging live steam locomotives and traction engines, from small spirit-fired to large scale coal-fired engines - either running, part complete or in need of repair.

Everything we sell is supplied on 14 days approval – if it’s not what you expected, or thought had been described, return it to us for a refund in full less shipping costs.

Engines listed below on the "Locomotives" and "Traction Engines" pages are all supplied with a 90 day written "no quibble" warranty unless otherwise stated. Most have tested boilers - hydraulic test, steam test or both - and expiry dates are listed under the item's "details" tab.

Some engines in these sections are not tested or steamed - this can be for a variety of reasons: a particularly old engine of historical interest or a new, unsteamed engine which would normally only have a hydraulic test.

Engines listed as "Projects" below range from part-built through to complete restorations (and pretty much everything in between) - unless specifically stated, boilers are given a visual inspection but have not been tested and are priced accordingly.

All engines listed on the website are on our premises, available for inspection by appointment.

Do you offer a warranty?

Absolutely - all products listed on the locomotives and traction engines pages are subject to a 90 day written "no quibble" warranty. Additionally, products in all categories are sold on 14 days approval. If it's not what you expected or thought had been described, we will take it back provided it is in substantially the same condition that it went out. We refund the price in full less shipping - no "ifs", no "buts", no quibbling!

Do you buy engines?

Yes, we are always interested in acquiring engines of the type that we sell. If you know of a steam engine for sale, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Engines bought outright, or we are happy to take them on a commission sale basis, or pay you a finder's fee if you put us in touch with an engine which we later purchase.

Do you take part-exchanges?

Yes, pretty much anything apart from wives or stereos. If it's something steam or workshop-related, we're happy to make an offer as part exchange against anything listed on the website.

What happens if I want to change my engine at some time in the future?

Whether you want to sell it, or exchange against another engine, we're always happy to take things back we've sold in the past.
