Workshop fitter

Strong growth over the last year means we have an opportunity for a workshop fitter, working on a wide variety of engines, from gauge 1 locomotives to full-sized road steam (and pretty much everything in between).

Duties are – typically for a small company – varied, and will include:

  • Preparing engines for sale
  • Diagnosis of faults
  • Repairs including the making of replacement parts
  • Steaming and testing engines prior to delivery to customers
  • Collection/delivery in company van
  • Packing finished engines for despatch

We are looking for experience in a mechanical engineering environment, with opportunities to learn or further develop skills in CAD, CNC machining, painting, welding and silver soldering as part of ongoing training. There are details of our workshop here and a job recently completed – the overhaul and retubing of a 10 ¼ inch gauge locomotive - written up in our blog here.

More engines for your dollar!
With the dollar exchange rate at a thirty year high against the pound, there's never been a better time for our American customers to buy an engine from SRS.
