An early stage 5 inch gauge LNER B1 to Martin Evans' "Springbok" design. Work to date is to a good standard, the project includes a large quantity of parts and castings, including:
- Rolling chassis with quartered and keyed driving wheels, coupling rods
- Commercially built CE-marked copper boiler, with regulator assembly, stainless steel grate and ashpan
- Outer dome and brass boiler bands
- Brake gear
- Fountain complete with steam and whistle valves
- Pair machined buffers
- Rolled smokebox complete with machined front ring and door locking bar, smokebox door with handles, petticoat pipe and chimney
- Exhaust tee with blast pipe
- Set unmachined cast iron piston valve cylinder assemblies, with piston material
- Pair mechanical lubricators
- Laser profiled parts for motion brackets, motionwork and valve gear
- Small parts including tender hand pump and boiler fittings
- Tender frames, buffer beams, machined wheels, axles and axleboxes, horns, springs and brass superstructure
- Drawings, various B1-related books and transfers
Much work to do, but the majority of the expenditure is now accounted for, the quality of work to date and quantity of parts amassed offering a flying start to the build.
One of Evans' most popular designs, a handsome locomotive that performs well on the track. We've sold many over the years, one of the nicest shown here in the archive.
