3 inch scale Atkinson undertype steam wagon - stock code 9331

In 2002 we sold a 3 inch Atkinson which had won a Gold Medal and the Hughes Trophy at the Sandown Model Engineering Exhibition in 2000 - a superb model, it's taken us nearly twenty years to find anything approaching, let alone surpassing it.

However, we think this one does just that - an impeccably built engine, the work of a prolific, highly talented engineer responsible for an impressive tally of stationary engines, locomotives and road vehicles.

A few of examples of his work which have passed through our hands in recent times include an open crank hopper-cooled engine, horizontal twin IC engine, vertical compound steam engine, vertical twin IC engine, seven cylinder radial engine and a seven cylinder "Monosoupape" rotary engine - all built to the same, superb standard.

Unsteamed from new, the Atkinson is in "ex-works" condition throughout. Fit and finish of all parts is excellent, the builder displaying equal facility in metal and woodwork.

The boiler has had an initial twice working pressure test at 200psi for 100psi working, with new certification issued. The engine itself runs like a sewing machine on air.

Update, December 2023 - with some time available in the workshop today we had the pleasure of being the first people to put a fire in this beautifully made wagon. As expected, it steams just as well as it looks!
