A 2 inch scale Burrell DCC Showmans Road Locomotive to Ronald Clarke's highly detailed "Thetford Town" design.
A well-advanced project, the engine has come to us from the family of the late builder. Work to date is to an exceptionally high standard and comprises:
- Silver soldered copper boiler
- Front and rear wheels assembled complete with axles, require spokes riveting
- Front end including smokebox with dynamo platform, door and handles, chimney, perch bracket, spring and front axle
- Cylinder block assembly, complete with guide bars and crossheads
- Belly tanks, tender and crane
- Steering gear with steering wheel, worm gear and chain barrel assembly
- Crankshaft with flywheel
- All gearing machined and asssembled, including differential and road gear selector assembly
- Water pump
- Reverser assembly, complete with reach rod and weighshaft
- Connecting rod assemblies
- Valve gear components, including eccentric straps and sheaves, rods and expansion link
- Rear axle spring assemblies
- Quantity loose parts, fasteners and unmachined castings
- Drawings
Parts and castings for the design are available from Reeves.
Still plenty of work to do but little by way of additional expenditure required, with the potential to produce a very fine engine.
If you need some inspiration, there are pictures of one of the nicest examples of a "Thetford Town" we've seen in the archive here.
