Swan twin cyinder vertical egine - stock code 3430

A newly-completed example of a Swan "Double Two" launch engine - a rare thing, I've only ever seen two running engines. This one passed through a couple of years ago as a set of castings and a very nicely made crankshaft, it's come back as a complete engine which runs like a sewing machine on air.

The design was for a powerful engine up to a serious job of work in a launch - it's a simple expansion twin, cast iron cylinders, slide valves with Stephenson's reversing gear and a five bearing steel crank. The short pillars at either end were originally intended for pumps, the builder has used one to mount a mechanical lubricator - this has a drive to it but has yet to be plumbed to the cylinders.

Despite its nautical leanings, I think it could be used as the basis for an interesting 7 1/4 inch gauge "Sentinel" type locomotive.

Length 21 inches
