Stuart No.4 steam
engine, 1 1/2 inch bore x 1 1/4 inch stroke. One of their larger engines, this
is an imposing model standing 10 inches tall with a 4 1/2 inch diameter flywheel
and weighing just under 11 pounds. Capable of high speed with it's oversquare
dimensions, the No.4 was recommended by Stuart's for, amongst other things,
driving a dynamo for a small generating set.
The engine runs well in both directions. The lifting lever
tends to loosen on the weighshaft when operating the reverse gear and could
really use a new set screw fitting. There is light surface corrosion on one side
of the blue steel cylinder lagging.
