Built to exhibition standard by John Bertinat, an exceptionally gifted designer and prolific builder of stationary engines including many by Stuart Turner, often modified with his own ideas.
There's not a lot one can say about this engine that its provenance and pictures opposite don't convey more eloquently.
Suffice to say that it would be difficult to find a better example of this, one of Stuart's largest vertical engines. Workmanship is to an excellent standard throughout with much extra detailing; fit and finish of machined parts first rate, the paintwork finely executed.
One hardly needs to say that the engine turns over freely and runs beautifully on air.
By some margin the best example we'd seen or, absent its late builder, ever likely to see again.
