Simpson & Shipton short stroke engine - stock code 12543

A Simpson and Shipton short stroke engine of 1851, built to the Anthony Mount design which was serialised in "Engineering in Miniature". Rather a rare engine, we've had one other in the last twenty or more years.

It did, amazingly, exist as more than a patent specification or model - a full-sized one was shown at the Great Exhibition in 1851. It seems an utterly contrary way to build an engine, which normally means a builder was attempting to circumvent somebody else's patents - in this case it simply appears to be wilful eccentricity.

The model is complete and turns over freely, although reluctant to run on air.
