It's recently come back in much the same condition as the last time we had it, twelve years ago. Pictures opposite were taken in recent days, words below are from 2013.
A fine old mill engine, made as a presentation piece and fitted with a plaque bearing the inscription "Erected by Daniel Rankine, Coatbridge".
The engine is a well-detailed model with cottered big end fitted with oiler, split main bearings and a gear-driven Watt type governor.
It's mounted on a well-proportioned wooden base, all working parts are nickel plated.
There is minor damage to the governor, which needs straightening, and one or two nuts are missing.
If anybody could shed more light on the engine's builder, or for whom it was made we should be very pleased to hear from them.
