Presentation model mill engine, nickel plate finish - stock code 5802

We last sold this one in 2013, it's recently come back as part of a large collection of stationary engines and locomotives. Gone straight back up the house, filling the place in the library recently vacated by a 3 1/2 inch gauge LNWR Compound.

A fine old mill engine, made as a presentation piece and fitted with a plaque bearing the inscription "Erected by Daniel Rankine, Coatbridge". The engine is a well-detailed model with cottered big end fitted with oiler, split main bearings and a gear-driven Watt type governor. It's mounted on a well-proportioned wooden base, all working parts are nickel plated. There is minor damage to the governor, which needs straightening, and one or two nuts are missing.

If anybody could shed more light on the engine's builder, or for whom it was made I should be very pleased to hear from them.
