A well-advanced model in 4 1/2 inch scale of a Burrell 6nhp agricultural traction engine to the well-proven H.R.Plastow design. The vast majority of the large, difficult or expensive work is done - the engine could be completed with modest workshop equipment and very little further expenditure.

 

Work completed and fitted comprises:

Professionally-built steel boiler by Solway Boilers (Annan) Ltd, requires tubes fitting. Firehole door fitted.
Smokebox assembly with perch bracket and front axle, chimney base. The chimney requires drilling and riveting to base and cap.
Cylinder assembly fitted complete with all glands, piston and rod, guide bars, weighshaft bracket, mechanical lubricator, governor and whistle
Crankshaft and flywheel assembly with connecting rod
Complete set of gears finished and fitted including differential, winch and brake drums
Wheels with retaining collars, hub caps and strakes
Finished tender with winch fairleads, brake wheel and screw actuator fitted
Steering wheel, worm and worm wheel, chain axle
Part-finished reversing lever and quadrant

In addition there is a box of loose parts comprising:

Side feed clacks for boiler
Finished boiler feed pump with rod, eccentric strap and sheave, ready to fit to crankshaft
Weighshaft, lifting links and expansion link assembly
Finished eccentric rods, straps and sheaves ready to fit
Iron grate
Finished steel drive pins for rear hubs
Hitch pin for tender
Brass drip lubricators for guide bars and gear shafts
Injector
Steam manifold
Front wheel boiler protector plates

Complete set of Plastow drawings for the engine and welding certificates for boiler.

Work required to complete will comprise:

Gear guards
Ashpan
Boiler and cylinder cladding
Tube boiler (the tubes are expanded in, not welded)
Pipe up side feeds, mechanical pump, injector, pressure and water gauges
Steering chains and shackles for front axle
Brake strap and blocks
Slide valve, valve rod and valve chest cover
Regulator slide valve and rod
Safety valve

It would be entirely feasible to complete this engine in time for the coming season - in 4 1/2 inch scale the Burrell makes a large and powerful engine for the rally field, capable of pulling around 5 tons on a flat metalled surface.
