Sold this one in September last year - before getting properly started on it the new owner was tempted by the new ready-to-run black "Rob Roy" I had in recently, this one has come back in part exchange.
A well-advanced build of Martin Evans' "Rob Roy" design for a Caledonian Railway 0-6-0. Work to date comprises:
Rolling chassis
Eccentric sheaves machined and fitted
Cylinders machined and fitted
Smokebox, saddle and chimney
Mechanical lubricator fitted, linkage to crosshead to be completed
Part-assembled boiler with plates to complete, complete regulator, set of superheaters
Handpump assembled onrunning board
Rear water tank
Pair machined safety valve bodies
Set of four buffers
Part machined valve chests
Whistle valve
Side tank union with filter
In addition there is a box of parts and unmachined castings, including:
Grate
Outer dome
Valve chest covers and valves
Pair clack valves
Injector
Length water gauge glass
The engine has been poorly stored at some stage, there is light surface rust to various parts. One of the buffers has heavier corrosion which, I think, will come off with some emery cloth. The reversing stand and lever are pitted and will require either a good deal more elbow grease or replacement.
There is a copy of the Martin Evans book which gives a detailed description of building the engine, there are some pictures in the archive of a good finished example
