96 of these locomotives were built for the 750mm gauge Royal Saxonian State Railways from 1892. The largest class of Meyers built, they replaced earlier Fairlie and Klose articulated types which had proved unsuccessful. On incorporation into the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the locomotives saw use on other narrow gauge railways throughout Germany.
Both bogies articulated - a compound engine, the high pressure rear set of cylinders exhausted to the low pressure front pair.
Several remain active in preservation, 22 of the class being rebuilt in the 1950s when they were fitted with new boilers, frames and cylinders.
Fitted with dual motors, lights and sound.
