Barford "Demon" 23 inch diameter coal-fired boiler - stock code 11188

A Barford "Demon" coal-fired vertical boiler, a large bit of kit weighing in at just over a quarter of a ton and standing eight feet high to the top of the chimney.

It's come to us from a retired crane erector in Aberdeen, until just before we collected it the boiler was mounted on a large, heavy duty trailer with several steam engines and pumps - several of which have featured on these pages over the last few months - making a substantial steam plant for display.

Complete with all fittings, as it was removed from the trailer and including a rather nice hand pump and recent grate, supplied in two halves for ease of fitting.

It has certification up until 2017 at which time, well into his eighties, the owner retired the outfit, deciding it was time to take something a little smaller to rallies. We've hydraulic tested it at twice working pressure - appears structurally sound, with two or three minor weeps from riveted joints. It would need internal inspection and a washout before a further hydraulic test could pass it fit for service.
