A 7 1/4 inch gauge Tinkerbell 0-4-2T. Inspired by Sir Arthur Heywood's work on "minimum gauge railways" in the nineteenth century, Roger Marsh's seminal design took the concept further - and smaller - creating what has become known as "minimal gauge" for garden railways, the concept of small, full-size locomotives and rolling stock, capable of doing useful work.

A one-owner engine, completed in 2021, it has had light use on a private railway and remains in excellent condition throughout.

The commercially built UKCA-marked steel boiler is pressed to 110psi, of all-welded construction with expanded tubes; feed is by a pair of injectors.

Built to a commercial specification, the already robust design is taken a stage further with use of roller bearings in the motion, air-start and a substantial stainless steel grate and backhead arrangement (with a baffle plate on the firehole door providing a surprising amount of protection for the driver's knees!)

Driving position is classic Tinkerbell, accommodating a six foot three driver comfortably, all controls falling easily to hand. It's an engine that you could drive all day without strain.

We had the engine in steam for a couple of hours shortly after it arrived - everybody in the works wanted a go! It drives beautifully, responsive to the light, silky smooth regulator and notching up in either direction.
