7 1/4 inch gauge Stafford 0-4-0ST, works number 1409 - stock code 12942

A late specification Stafford, works number 1409 completed in 2019.

Finished in hand-lined ultramarine blue over black, with "No.1" signwritten on the cab sheets, we'd intended it as our show engine for the Doncaster Exhibition in 2020. It was fitted with the then-new spoked wheels, profiled rods and valve chest covers, as well as vacuum brake equipment.

The arrival of COVID in March put the kybosh on the show, the engine selling to a customer in Wiltshire, seeing little use for the first 18 months of its life due to lockdown.

The engine has recently come back to us; it remains in excellent condition, the boiler clean inside with thickness readings little changed from the day we built it. It's had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued, needing nothing other than a new fusible plug - something we replace as routine every second year on steel boilers.

Supplied with 12 months warranty, firing irons, and a starter kit of coal, oil and water treatment - exactly the same as you'd get with a new, factory-built engine.

We would be more than happy to give half a day's instruction on the steaming, running and disposal of the engine to a new owner if required.
