7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 43XX Mogul - stock code 9131

A 7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 43XX Mogul, Churchward's elegant design first built in 1911 and produced in batches thereafter until - in modified form - the last of the class were outshopped in 1932. Several examples passed into British Railways ownership post-1948; by 1964 all were withdrawn, with two surviving into preservation.

The model is the work of of a highly experienced engineer with many locomotives to his credit. Regular readers may remember his excellent 4 inch scale Hunslet which we sold in 2014 - at that time the Mogul was well-advanced on the bench alongside, awaiting platework and painting.

Built to his own design, using castings from patterns made especially for the project - both drawings and castings are now part of the Reeves range.

Exceptionally well built and unsteamed from new, the engine remains in "ex-works" condition throughout. Fit and finish of machined parts is excellent, platework is finely formed and neatly rivetted; paintwork is well-executed.

The engine runs well on air - there's a clip of it running in the workshop following hydraulic test here..

Boiler was commercially built by Morewood; copper, all silver soldered and complete with manufacturer's documentation for initial shell test. It has had a recent repeat hydraulic test with new certification issued.
