7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 14XX 0-4-2T - stock code 9591

A 7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 14XX 0-4-2T, a well-sorted engine which steams freely and runs particularly well, notching up nearly to mid gear in either direction - there's some video of it running outside the workshop here. Run on our rolling road to test the axle pumps it proved exceptionally free-running, ticking over very steadily down to 10psi.

Finished in British Railways livery, the paintwork and lining were well executed and remain in good condition.

The silver soldered copper boiler has had a recent twice working pressure hydraulic test; feed is by a pair of crosshead pumps fitted with individual bypass valves and an injector, piped up to draw water from a tank mounted on a driving truck.

The engine has an effective steam brake, with spring-loaded operating valve and displacement lubricator in the cab.
