7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 14XX 0-4-2T - stock code 9488

We sold this one back in 2016, having bought it direct from the builder, a first class engineer with several fine locomotives, stationary and traction engines to his credit.

Regular readers will remember his superb 6 inch scale Ruston, Proctor steam tractor which we sold in 2019.

Recently arrived back with us from its second owner, the engine has been steamed four times since last here - it remains in excellent condition throughout. Pictures opposite and words below are from 2016, there's a video here of the engine in steam outside the workshop earlier today.

A very finely engineered Great Western 14XX 0-4-2T, built to exhibition standard and in immaculate, ex-works condition throughout. Steam tested when new, it's been run occasionally on air since - the engine comes complete with a purpose built rolling road, adaptor for running the motion on compressed air and a well-designed combined storage trolley and case.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 100psi working pressure - the boiler was inspected by the builder's club on completion in 2008 and given its initial twice working pressure shell test, with certification issued for same. Feed by twin injectors, there's an auxiliary hand pump hidden beneath the dummy coal load in the rear bunker.

There are thirty or so high resolution pictures below showing the quality of workmanship and level of detailing - the cab floor is planked, the driver and fireman's seats hinge up when not in use, the brass safety valve bonnet is beautifully executed with correct rolled edges top and bottom, dummy sanding gear and steam lance connection on the smokebox front ring.

Paintwork is well executed, perfectly managing the tricky balance between a good depth of finish whilst at the same time leaving crisp rivet detail.

Full of little details that make servicing and maintenance easier, including the pair of Swindon pattern safety valves - normally a nuisance to blank for hydraulic test - mounted on a threaded boss, the work of moments to remove, and a mechanical lubricator neatly concealed in the nearside sandbox, with filler cap on the running board.

Any other questions give us a call, we'd be happy to wax lyrical about it until you're bored!
