7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 14XX 0-4-2T - stock code 12895

A 7 1/4 inch gauge GWR 14XX 0-4-2T, painted in black BR livery.

We sold this engine at the beginning of last year (there are some pictures and video of it running in the archive here), the new owner undertaking a variety of jobs, including:

  • All brass platework - running boards/cab/tanks etc - stripped and etch primed before repainting
  • Missing whistle deflector and handrails made and fitted
  • New removable cab floor fitted for easier access to oil tank
  • Hand pump fitted in cab
  • Lever fitted in cab to work locomotive brakes

It has had occasional use in his ownership - the last time on Christmas Day 2024 - only coming back now because he found the size and weight too much to move around.

We've hydraulic tested the boiler and issued new certification. The engine runs on air (and, we've no doubt, would still steam like it did last year when we last ran it), however it is offered as a running restoration needing further work, including:

  • Re-fix driving wheels which are showing signs of moving on the axles
  • Service/replace blower steam valve which leaks
  • Service blowdown valves, which are both part blocked
  • Repair leak on the cylinder steam pipe union at the front of the smokebox - it needs cleaning and re-soldering
None of the above costly in parts or material, it's mainly a few hours in the workshop required.
