An early stage example of Don Young's collossal "Maxi 7" design, based on Edaville #7 which survives in preservation. The 3 1/2 inch gauge version is a heavy thing to handle - they run out at a bit over 300 pounds. Doubled up to 7 1/4 inch gauge, the finished engine will tip the scales at around a ton.
Cylinders are machined and fitted with pistons and valves with stainless steel rods - no piston rings fitted yet.
Never had a complete one of these before, but if you have a look at this 3 1/2 inch gauge version we sold earlier in the year, then imagine it scaled up to ten feet long, you'll have a good idea of what you're letting yourself in for.
Complete with a set of drawings.
