We've all had a go on it this morning, after Connor came racing in and declared, wild-eyed, "it goes like **** of a shovel!". As indeed it does (the video's here)
I've no idea what 17D (for it is one of their creations) had in mind when they weaponised a pair of bogies with two huge batteries and a pair of 1hp motors, but it's the fastest accelerating locomotive we've had in any gauge. Ever.
Overall build quality is what you'd expect from 17D: well thought out design; high quality engineering; all steel body. Options include LED lighting, buffer and cab detailing kits. There is a full specification for the locomotive on their website here.
The driving truck is by Phoenix Locomotives with a hand brake and vacuum brake valve mounted on the offside and dashboard with vacuum gauge, battery voltmeter and speedometer.
There is a 12 volt vacuum pump and battery in the driving truck, with hose and connector on the rear buffer beam.
