7 1/4 inch gauge Baldwin C19 "Montezuma" - stock code 6141

I've always been impressed by the big Baldwin C19 design from Milner Engineering - wherever there's a large gathering of 7 1/4 inch gauge engines, you'll usually find one or two of these performing prodigious feats where the combination of tractive effort and adhesive weight from the sheer size of the things makes for a formidable load-hauler.

Completed in 2012 to run on the Comrie Railroad, this engine has proved a reliable, powerful performer on that most testing of tracks (and if you were not fortunate enough to have visited before it finally closed recently, here's a clip here of one of our Staffords working there a couple of years ago). Steel boiler with expanded tubes, 120psi working pressure, feed by twin injectors and a duplex steam pump. Cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser in the cab, mechanical lubricator.

A well made, thoroughly sorted locomotive, the work of a highly experienced engineer still full of ideas and building into his eighth decade.
