6 x 8 vertical twin cylinder piston valve engine - stock code 5196

A large vertical twin, dismantled for restoration. The previous owner did a good deal of work cleaning up, masking all the important bits, shot-blasting and painting in primer. There are several boxes of parts and a wooden crate containing all the fasteners removed during disassembly.

Quite intrigued by this one, it's not something I recognize. It's of largely fabricated construction, done to a high standard although utility finish - I suspect it was made in the war, possibly originally fitted in a ship (the heavy welded sections and neat, industrial-strength welding look typical of shipyard practice). Cylinder block is in cast iron, twin cylinders, simple expansion - it's fitted with piston valves, suggesting operation at elevated presure. There's a gear-driven governor and relatively light, fabricated flywheel.

If anybody knows any more about this one I'd be pleased to hear from them. In the meantime, if you've been looking for a six foot high, half-ton project, your search is over.
