6 1/2 inch gauge 4-2-2 - stock code 3307

An ancient 4-2-2 missing its tender and having been the victim of an illjudged "refurbishment" in recent years.

Copper boiler, rivetted and soft-soldered, gunmetal cylinders with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's reversing gear with pole reverser in cab. Feed by axle pump. The overall construction is lightweight, typically early twentieth century with thin steel frames and cast brass bogie frames although detail work is good with keyed eccentric sheaves, the axleboxes are retained by an interesting arrangement of strap-type hornstay with springs beneath. Buffer and drag beams are substantially made in wood.

The engine has had some work done in recent times, not entirely sympathetically. The green primer has been applied with a tar brush, the front bogie axles have been skimmed, I imagine to clean them up although the standard of turning has done little to increase the cosmetic appeal.

There are a couple of boxfuls of bits, including various fittings and what appear to be two pairs of tender wheels.
