5 inch gauge Rail Motor - stock code 2644

A venerable example of a 5 inch gauge Railmotor, to the T.Hurry Riches design with tender derived from Don Young's original tank locomotive.

Silver soldered copper boiler with superheater, feed by axle pump with bypass and hand pump in tender. Slide valve cylinders with Walschaert's valve gear, pole reverser in cab.

Originally finished in what looks like a close approximation of Stroudly's Improved Engine Green, which still shows on the frames, the engine has, in more recent times, been repainted into rather a toxic orange. By, apparently, an eight year old. Having said that, mechanically it is in good condition with little wear to motion work or axle boxes and goes very well. It is of compact proportions, easy to handle unassisted whilst at the same time having the free-steaming characteristics typical of Don Young designs, making it forgiving of less than expert firing. An ideal beginner's engine for 5 inch gauge.
