5 inch gauge part-built LNER V1 - stock code 5072

A very finely made 5 inch gauge LNER V1 to Martin Evans' "Enterprise" design, a powerful, three cylinder tank locomotive with Gresley-Holcroft conjugated valve gear.

This engine was started in the 1980s on the other side of the Atlantic - it came back here with its owner some years ago and has languished in its current state since. Machining is very crisp, fit and finish of components is excellent throughout. Work to date comprises a rolling chassis with crank axle running in split axleboxes, the majority of the motionwork and valve gear including fully-bushed 2 to1 linkage, three machined cylinders and a quantity of unmachined castings including saddle, smokebox front ring and door, chimney and dome. There is a silver-soldered copper boiler, again finely made, stamped up with 200psi test pressure for 100psi working.

Complete with a set of drawings and photographs of the prototype engine.
