5 inch gauge part-built Hunslet - stock code 3222

An exceptionally well-made 5 inch gauge Hunslet to Don Young's design. The engine is about 85% complete, it requires the valve gear - eccentric rods, expansion links, weighshaft, lifintg links, reverser etc - although the four valve eccentric straps and sheaves are already fitted, along with the pump eccentric.

Work to date is all to a high standard, there is much nice detailing, including glazed spectacles, (the front ones hinging open), lifting eyes on the drag beam and detailed backhead with the prototypical brass cleading. Boiler is copper, silver-soldered throughout. The wheels are accurately quartered, the engine pushes along very freely.

There is a box of bits, including nameplates, spring material (Tufnol and spring steel strip), sight feed lubricator complete with tank and assorted bits and pieces. There is a complete set of well-thumbed but basically clean and useable drawings.

For some reason Hunslets are rather scarce in 5 inch gauge - plenty of 7 1/4 ones about (in both the 3 inch "Elidir" and 4 inch Milner design forms) and quite a few 3 1/2 inch gauge. It makes up into a good sized engine in this gauge, about 32 inches long and weighing in at around 130 pounds.
