A 5 inch gauge GWR King; bought as a well-advanced project, the previous owner has stripped it and start repainting preparatory to reassembly. A highly capable engineer, he's built/rebuilt/completed several particularly fine standard gauge locomotives, including
the superb 9F we sold back in 2017.
Pictures opposite show the engine in its current condition. Work to date includes:
- New CE-marked silver soldered copper boiler with superheaters & headers, regulator and safety valves fitted
- Smokebox, smokebox door, chimney and petticoat pipe
- Locomotive, bogie and tender frames and horns, buffer beams, drag beam, stretchers
- Bogie and driving wheelsets
- Gunmetal cylinders, pistons, rods, crossheads
- Quantity of motionwork and valve gear
- Tender wheels, axles and axleboxes
- Riveted brass tender body with water scoop
- Ashpan and grate
- Brass platework including cab sides, splashers with cleading and running boards
- Brake rigging
If you need some inspiration to complete this one, we've just sold a superb example, more information and pictures in the archive here.
