In well-used condition, the engine runs on air - better in reverse than forwards, although with slightly uneven beats in either direction. Not unusual in this design - secured to the valve spindle by a grub screw, the slide valves are easily set (and just as easily "unset" themselves in our experience!)
The boiler has had a hydraulic test with new certification issued.
