5 inch gauge Maxitrak "Dixie" - stock code 2171

A good example of Maxitrak's well-proven "Dixie" 0-4-0 saddle tank design.

Silver-soldered copper locomotive-type boiler, injector, crosshead pump and auxiliary handpump beneath footplate. Water gauge with blowdown valve, boiler blowdown valve beneath footplate. Slide valve cylinders with Hackworth valve gear, screw-operated brake to rear wheels. The original owner has added some nice details, including a drain valve for the saddle tanks and rivetting throughout the tanks and bunker.

An ideal beginners engine for 5 inch gauge, being narow-gauge the controls are big enough to handle easily and the boiler is easy to keep in steam. At 26 inches long, it can be loaded into the car single-handed (although you probably wouldn't want to walk miles with it). The engine has a current club certificate, expiring September 2004.

I don't know how many of these Maxitrak have turned out over the years, but I very rarely get any of their engines - their owners are obviously happy with the way they go and seem to hang on to them.
