5 inch gauge "Maid of Kent" 4-4-0 - stock code 12106

A 5 inch gauge 4-4-0 to LBSC's "Maid of Kent" design, an older engine which requires some work to bring up to scratch.

The commercially built boiler by Cheddar has had a hydraulic test with new certification issued. The engine steams freely and runs well in either direction, with work required including:

  • Service/replace safety valves which accumulate
  • Adjust lubricator, which is over-oiling
  • Offside rear cylinder cover and dome need new gaskets
  • Some rebushing of motionwork will be required at next overhaul
  • Service/replace injector - it works, although doesn't pick up cleanly
  • Replace leaking handpump connection between locomotive and tender

Paintwork was not done terribly well in the first place and is now getting tired - a new coat of paint in a more sympathetic livery would transform the engine.
