5 inch gauge LNER L1 2-6-4T - stock code 9876

A 5 inch gauge LNER L1 2-6-4T, it's recently come to us from the builder along with a 7 1/4 inch gauge locomotive.

Currently in club test, the commercially built CE-marked boiler has had a hydraulic test since arriving with us and is in sound condition.

Overall the engine needs a variety of jobs doing - it's a winter overhaul job - including:

  • Service leaking regulator
  • Reset valves - it doesn't currently run on air in either direction
  • Attend to tight spot in chassis, apparently caused by bent coupling rods
  • Refix loose wheelsets
  • Adjust drain cock linkage
  • Adjust lubricator linkage, which catches on running board
  • Shim brake gear to eliminate side play

Not a five minute job to sort this one out, however a worthwhile project - the L1 is a handsomely proportioned engine, rather rare in this gauge.
