Condition is cosmetically pretty much the same as when it sold last, with the exception of new water gauges, shown in the photographs opposite. The owner has done various jobs, resulting in it successfully passing a club steam test in recent days, with new certification issued.
A 5 inch gauge LNER A3 No.2505 "Cameronian", a three cylinder locomotive with Gresley-Holcroft conjugated gear, reputedly built by Herbert Clarkson, the "Son" of "H.Clarkson & Son" of York.
An older engine, the boiler has had recent hydraulic test with new certification issued. The last club test dates from twenty years ago, suggesting relatively little use in its life to date.
On test the engine steamed freely and ran quite well forwards, less so in reverse. The twin ram axle pump and double-acting hand pump both worked well, keeping up with demand from the boiler. The left hand injector doesn't give much indication of working, the right hand injector has been disconnected.
