5 inch gauge ''Claud Hamilton'' 4-4-0 - stock code 11441

A 5 inch gauge Great Eastern D56 4-4-0 "Claud Hamilton". Designed by James Holden for the Great Eastern Railway, the first of the class No.1900 "Claud Hamilton" was out-shopped in 1900. A handsome design featuring 7 foot diameter driving wheels, it won a Gold Medal at the Paris Exhibition of that year - at that time it was the GER's largest express locomotive.

A well-built model, this one has impressed us with its performance - free-steaming, it ran beautifully on the rolling road, maintaining water and pressure without need of the blower throughout the test.

The boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued. Feed is by twin injectors, with an auxiliary double-acting hand pump in the tender.

The backhead is well laid out, the controls falling easily to hand, the sight feed lubricator giving clear indication that oil's getting to the right place when running.

Presented in Great Eastern blue livery, the paintwork was well done in the first place and remains in good, bright condition.

Offered complete with firing irons, a starter kit of coal and water, and 12 months warranty. We would be more than happy to give half a day's instruction on the steaming, running and disposal of the locomotive to a new owner.
