5 inch gauge Britannia "William Shakespeare" - stock code 4438

Assembled from a kit, this engine has come from the original builder. As with most of these models, it has been considerably modified, including replacement of the boiler main steam pipe which was, as originally designed, about a quarter of the size required for the cylinders.

Silver soldered copper boiler, working pressure 90psi, feed by injector and axle pump with hand pump in the tender. Stainless steel grate. Twin safety valves. Cast iron cylinders with piston valves actuated by Walschaert’s gear with screw reverser in cab, mechanical lubricator.

The engine has been run at the previous owner’s club and is technically a runner as it is, although it runs erractically in forward gear and not at all in reverse – the piston valves need resetting as a starting point. That said, it moves freely, steams easily and has had all the dreadful original equipment valves in the cab replaced with better quality items. Paintwork is acceptable if not show quality.
