5 inch gauge "Britannia" - stock code 5268

A horrendous-looking 5 inch gauge Britannia, the dire appearance of the locomotive is, if anything, surpassed by the tender, a contraption of unremittingly grim proportion and execution.

The builder, mercifully realising his limits, had Priory Boilers make the boiler which was supplied new in December 2000 – the engine was completed and first club tested in 2003. Feed is by twin injectors with an additional hand pump fitted to the footplate.

Despite the dire look of the thing, rather surprisingly it pushes along smoothly, the motionwork all goes in the right directions – if you had no shame whatsoever it looks as though it could be got going, after a fashion, fairly quickly and used “as-is” (indeed it was running at the last owner's club until 2008). However, the thing really needs pulling apart, rebuilding and repainting before ever being allowed out in public again.

Complete with most of a set of Norman Spink drawings.
