5 inch gauge Beyer Peacock 2-4-0 "Peveril" - stock code 8943

A 5 inch narrow gauge Beyer-Peacock 2-4-0 "Peveril", the prototype was built for the Isle of Man Railway in 1875 - it remains preserved in their museum on the island.

An older model, this one came to us apparently not having run in some years. It's been in steam for an hour in the workshop this afternoon, running somewhat asthmatically in either direction - forwards better than reverse.

One injector was usable, the second (mounted above the offside tank) has obviously given trouble in the past and been replaced by a third, fitted underneath the cab floor.

Rather a "round the houses" way of fixing a dud injector (we'd have just replaced it), it's been piped through the old injector which has had its innards removed and is now simply used to pass water through to the boiler. Or would do, if somebody had thought to blank off its overflow...

A worthwhile project - we rarely see these modelled, their distinctive, steeply raked cylinders making for an instantly recognizable design.
