An elderly "Ajax" 0-4-0, bought by a man who knew little about steam engines but enjoyed painting things. He pulled it apart completely, repainted it as seen here, then reassembled - remarkably well given his lack of experience, although there is room for optimisation in the valve setting, it runs forwards but not in reverse. Originally nicely made, the machining is good with well fitted motionwork and nice touches such as the expansion link suspended on ball races.
