4 inch scale Garrett traction engine - stock code 3390

Having just sold a 4 inch scale Garrett and remarking that they are one of the rarer 4 inch scale models, up pops another one within a couple of weeks. This one was built in 2002 as one of a pair - engineering is good and it goes well. The paint is pretty miserable on the hornplates and spectacle where millscale wasn't removed from the steel plate before painting and will need some attention over next winter.

Steel boiler by Franklin & Bell with expanded tubes, 120psi working pressure. Feed by mechanical pump and injector. Twin Ramsbottom safety valves. Single cylinder, slide valve actuated by Stephenson's reversing gear with pole reverser. Mechanical lubricator.

Four shaft transmission with two road speeds, winch behind nearside rear wheel with fairleads mounted on tender. Steam water lifter on tender. The rear wheels have been fitted with removeable rubber tyres - they are bonded to steel bands, which are bolted up to the wheels and can be removed quickly if the ground warrants running on strakes. There is a spare pair of front wheels, without tyres.

The engine was in steam all afternoon last week when the boiler inspector was here, it runs very quietly.
