4 inch scale Foster traction engine - stock code 5887

A four inch scale Foster agricultural engine, it came in recently with tired paint and needing a good clean. Steve spent a happy day washing it and hydraulic testing the boiler before we ran the engine in the afternoon. With expanded copper tubes in the steel boiler, it's a free-steaming engine and runs well on the road - it pulls strongly, the gears are quiet, there's a clip of it running around outside the workshop here.

Steel boiler with expanded copper tubes, 120psi working pressure, feed by mechanical pump and injector. Cast iron cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear, mechanical and displacement lubricators, governor. Two speed transmission with differential, winch mounted behind nearside rear wheel with fairleads on tender. Rubber tyres.

One of the most popular 4 inch scale engines we get in, Foster's have a well-deserved reputation for robust design and good performance.
