4 inch scale Clayton & Shuttleworth agricultural engine - stock code 8881

A 4 inch scale Clayton & Shuttleworth agricultural engine, one of the larger engines we get in this scale.

The engine is in running order but needs a variety of minor jobs attending to, including:

  • Service safety valves - lift at 120psi but don't close until 90psi
  • Enlarge pump bypass port - pump feeds a quantity of water, even with bypass open
  • Repack piston and valve rod glands
  • Strip and reassemble the parallel action firehole doors which stick closing
  • Replace belly tank to tender balance pipe, currently a piece of hosepipe which, whilst no doubt functional, looks horrid

Boiler is a commercially built welded steel job by the estimable Gloucester Steam & Traction Company. We have a good deal of history for it going back to 2012 and including full current commercial certification - cladding was last removed in 2017, it was last tested in May 2019 with next examination due in July 2020.

Complete with well-built driving/passenger truck, the engine is on rubber tyres and road-registered, with V5 document.
