The engine was fitted with a 10 inch diameter boiler by the builder - larger than standard, it's a size more commonly found on a road locomotive and offers welcome additional weight to the front end. It's had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued - it's in good condition internally, with thickness readings little changed since last tested by Dave Wothers in 2018.
The pump is well-suited to the demands of the boiler, keeping the water level pretty much constant when running on the road. We've fitted a new injector which works well, although with its steam valve plumbed into the fountain, produces a high water reading when working - a not uncommon "feature" with injectors piped up this way.
On test the engine proved free-steaming and drove very well, with little mechanical noise from either motionwork or gears. There is a sickle-shaped extension to the regulator handle which, whilst not remotely prototypical, falls easily to hand when driving from the two seat driving truck.
Paintwork is in good, bright condition, the engine presents very well.
