4 1/2 inch scale Burrell agricultural engine - stock code 5923

Recently arrived back as part exchange against a steam wagon, I last sold this Burrell in 2010. A professionally-built engine it had been completed some years before but only steamed once to test it, there are pictures of it in the archive here. It has since been fitted with a driving seat and the obligatory weighted toobox on the front axle, required on Burrells which have a tendency to be light at the front with a driver on the back.

Welded steel boiler with welded steel tubes, fusible plug, working pressure 100psi. Twin Ramsbottom safety valves, feed by injector and mechanical pump.

Cast iron cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear, pole reverser on footplate. Mechanical lubricator, governor and whistle mounted on block.

Two road speeds with differential, winch behind nearside rear wheel, rubber tyres fitted on steel bands over strakes.

It remains in good order and goes well - those who visited our open day recently will have seen it running around the yard all day.
