4 1/2 inch scale Burrell agricultural engine - stock code 3778

I first bought this engine in 2003 from the builder, a talented engineer who built this one, followed by a 4 inch scale Burrell SCC roller and Foden wagon - whilst not working on traction engines he'd also found time to build a "Bridget" and "Romulus" in 7 1/4 inch gauge, along with a superb garden railway. I don't know where some people find the time...

Steel boiler by Franklin & Bell fed by crank-driven mechanical pump and injector, 100psi working pressure. Single cylinder with slide valve, mechanical lubricator, Stephenson's valve gear with pole reverser on the footplate. Two speed with differential and winch behind nearside rear wheel, wheels are rubber-tyred.

We've just finished putting the engine back together after it was stripped for its ten year inspection and hydraulic test. I hadn't driven the engine for a couple of years since it was last here, I was again impressed by just how nicely it's been put together - it runs very well and will tickover at the slowest of speeds with virtually no pressure on the clock.
