A well-built 4 1/2 inch scale Foden to the JRME design and with boiler by the estimable Mr Rex himself. It's been a regular at our local rallies for several years, it runs well and is smartly turned out with a good paint job, nice signwriting and well polished brightwork.
Steel boiler with expanded tubes, 140psi working pressure, feed by injector and mechanical pump - boiler supplied new in 2001, retubed by JRME in 2013. Cast iron double high cylinders with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear, pole reverser. Mechanical lubricator. Three speed transmission with differential, chain drive to rear axle. Wheels are cast, prototypically accurate with bonded rubber tyres - they make for a handsome looking engine, we sometimes see Fodens with slightly less authentic wheelwear (and some, dare we say it, that look more steam wheelbarrow than svelte 1920s wagon).
The engine has just been through the works with new hydraulic and steam tests, it's ready to rally for the rest of the season.
