3 inch scale Wallis & Simplicity steamroller - stock code 3724

A 3 inch scale Wallis & Steevens “Simplicity” roller, built to the Plastow design. A diminutive engine in full size, weighing in at under three tons, it’s truly pocket-sized at a quarter scale and fits easily into the average size hatchback.

This is a particularly well-made engine, from the same builder as the super 3 inch scale Marshall traction engine I’ve recently sold. As with the Marshall, sound engineering throughout and lots of practical detail touches - the piston has a PTFE ring, making it the freeest-running one of these I’ve driven, the rear rolls are rubber covered which is almost unnoticeable at first glance yet makes the engine so much nicer to drive on a hard surface.

Copper boiler, working pressure 80psi, feed by mechanical pump with auxiliary hand pump on belly tank. Twin safety valves, water gauge with protector and blowdown. Boiler blowdown valve beneath belly tanks. Single cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's valve gear with pole reverser in cab. Single road speed engaged by pin on the right hand hornplate, as per prototype.

The engine comes complete with spark arrester, a set of firing irons and a comfortable driving truck – it would make an ideal beginner’s outfit.
