3 inch scale Savage steam wagon - stock code 5471

The latest production of a local model engineer, a highly accomplished responsible for, amongst other things, the superb 3 inch scale Savage "Little Samson" I sold a couple of years back - it's in the archive if you want to refresh your memory.

Since that engine he's produced a 3 1/2 inch gauge locomotive, then back to road steam for this - Savage's "Universal Carrier" steam wagon, a technically novel and powerful engine that makes a fine model. The engine has been test-steamed only, the rubber tyres are in pristine condition - a builder rather than driver, the owner has now sold this, arguably his finest (and certainly most complex) engine to date to make room in the workshop for a 4 inch scale "Little Samson", already up on its wheels, six weeks after the project started.

Steel boiler with welded tubes, working pressure 150 psi, feed by injector and geared down mechanical pump which can be run whilst the wagon is stationary. Twin cylinder compound engine with simpling valve driving through a two-speed transmission to the back axle, the crank, gearbox and differential run in an oil bath.

Workmanship is excellent throughout, the engine remains in ex-works condition both mechanically and cosmetically.
